No one plans to get sick while traveling. But we’re always susceptible to food poisoning, a lost filling, or a broken bone. Finding affordable, quality healthcare while traveling can be tricky, though—especially overseas. That’s where Air Doctor can help, by arranging prompt medical care for travelers across the globe. The service matches travelers with trusted, local doctors to get treatment anywhere, anytime. And there’s no expensive plan to join—you simply pay one, reasonable fee each time you need to see a doctor.
Air Doctor – Medical Care Anywhere, Anytime
With Air Doctor, travelers have access to a global network of 20,000 vetted doctors in 78 countries. Coverage is especially strong in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Medical care for travelers is available in Africa and the Middle East, too, but with fewer options.
Air Doctor offers 24/7 video consultation in 21 languages. Or you can schedule an in-person visit at a clinic or your lodging.
Air Doctor – How It Works
Whenever you need a doctor while traveling, simply go to the Air Doctor website. Choose the specialty you need (including, for example, pediatricians and dentists), followed by your preferred language and location. You’ll get a list of available doctors who match your criteria. Pick the one you like, choose a video or in-person visit, and select the appointment time you want.
Air Doctor advertises that all providers in the network, regardless of specialty, have been extensively vetted to ensure high-quality medical care for travelers.
I Put Air Doctor to the Test
I used my recent visit to the small, relatively remote island of Chiloé in southern Chile as a test of Air Doctor’s coverage and costs. Although only video consultations were available, I had 20 English-speaking physicians from which to choose. I also had the option to filter by gender. And all the doctors were eligible to prescribe medication in Chile. The fee charged by each provider ranged from $58 to $114.
Each physician’s profile included a photo, specialties, patient reviews, and languages spoken. Available appointments were listed for that day and the next 48 hours. I also had the option of clicking a button to be matched automatically with the earliest available doctor.
Once I made my choice, the system prompted me to create an account, sign in, and confirm the appointment. However, I was only testing my options and didn’t actually speak with a clinician.
Peace of Mind
There have only been a few occasions when I needed a doctor overseas. But it was a hassle every time. A service like Air Doctor would have been a game-changer and spared me a lot of stress. Even better, it’s always there if and when you need it—on a pay-per-use basis.
That said, complex, unusual, or life-threatening medical conditions could require advanced care or treatment at specialized facilities. For that reason, travel insurance that includes medical evacuation may still be a wise choice. That’s especially true if you have a pre-existing condition or travel to a remote part of the world.
But there’s added peace of mind knowing medical care for travelers is now more readily, easily, and affordably accessible—in your native language—with Air Doctor.
