GPSMyCity – Guided Tours at Your Fingertips

It’s been a while since I recommended new travel tools. So this week I’m excited to share the first of two recent discoveries that I think will have broad appeal for fellow travelers. It’s an app called GPSMyCity—available for both iOS and Android. It delivers GPS-guided walking tours in more than 1,500 cities throughout the world. And the available, customizable itineraries are astonishingly diverse.

GPSMyCity — Perfect for Independent Explorers

GPSMyCity is easy to use and perfect for travelers like me who prefer to explore places in depth at their own pace. When you open it, the app immediately recognizes where you are and offers a list of suggested itineraries in the area. Or you can enter a different destination in the search bar to see what’s offered elsewhere. The content is generated by travel bloggers/enthusiasts with personal knowledge of the area.

GPS-Guided Walks in 1,500+ Cities

Of course, you’ll find popular international locales like London, Amsterdam, Rome, Barcelona, and Dubrovnik, along with major U.S. cities. All their must-see attractions are noted for you on GPSMyCity’s downloadable maps in the City Walks category.

But even more impressive is the assortment of specialty walking tours in the Insider Tips category. They’re geared, for example, toward foodies, works of art, music lovers, religious sites, or fans of unique architecture, just to name a few. The variety of options is remarkable. And GPS efficiently guides you to each spot.

But in the unlikely event that none of the existing tours suits you, you can create your own. Simply pick from a list of attractions at your preferred destination. The app will generate a GPS-guided walking tour of your chosen sites.

All GPSMyCity Maps Available Offline

Even better, every tour in GPSMyCity can be downloaded for offline use. Each one provides a suggested route, its length in miles, and estimated duration. And for added convenience, the. maps point out hotels, restaurants, and shops of interest along your chosen route.

I find GPSMyCity very intuitive and easy to use. But tutorials are available to familiarize you with all the features.

GPSMyCity – How to Subscribe

I checked out the assortment of tours posted for my small hometown and found the maps and recommendations to be spot on. Although I subscribe to the full version of the app (available for $20.99 per year), you can pay just $14.99 annually for access to either the City Walks or Insider Tips. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to forfeit either category. But if forced to choose, I’d go with the Insider Tips for travel scoops not easily found elsewhere. You can learn more and download the app at www.gpsmycity.com.

Check Out My Articles on GPSMyCity

To get an idea of how the app works, check out the map it generated from my recent article about Santiago, Chile. It’s available as a free download without a subscription until August 11, 2025.

I recently partnered with GPSMyCity as a content contributor. That means GPSMyCity subscribers will have access to additional maps generated from my articles about Gettysburg, Pompeii, Civil War Sites in Madrid, WW2 Sites in Malta, places associated with the Lincoln assassination, and more. Great travel articles enhanced by GPS-guided walking tours—what more could a travel explorer ask for?!
